Hi, guys Justice here bringing you thoughts of an employedpreneur.
2021! Welcome, everybody, it’s still tough times but we’re pushing on. Still doing this side hustle while being full-time employed. To those that are full-time entrepreneurs, awesome keep it up.
So today we’re gonna talk about what Google wants, (the search engine). I’m going to divide it into two parts,
- Part 1: What Google wants for users (Anyone who searches on Google).
- Part 2: What google wants from websites (Any websites that want to show and rank on Google)
So let’s start from the beginning…
What does Google want for its users?
Google wants to make sure that it gives you the most relevant answer to your question while providing you with a good user experience.

How does Google give you answers to your question?
- Crawling: Google sends programs called spiders or bots to search the internet and read through the different web pages that it comes across.
- Indexing: After finding these web pages it sorts and places them in a sort of library.
- Ranking: Then when you search for something it goes to its library and presents you with the answers that it thinks will best serve you.
How does Google make sure that it shows you the best answers?
So say you want a chocolate muffin recipe. You go onto Google and type that in the search box, then click on the search icon.
A number of results will show with the top result being the most relevant. The way this happens is by Google checking a number of things:
Keywords: One of the things that it will check is the keywords. Will the websites that it wants to show you answer your query? If the query is about Chocolate muffin recipes, will the web page be talking about Chocolate muffin recipes or something else?
Location: Google will look at your location, where are you accessing this information from? Are you on the road? Are you in a certain area? Are you in a certain city or country?
Device: What device are you using? A phone, a laptop, a tablet, etc.
Browsing history: It also looks at your browsing history if you have cookies enabled. Where have you been searching? What websites have you been visiting? etc.
There are a lot of other factors it takes into consideration when showing you results, the above mentioned are just the tip of the ice burg.
Google does all of this in order to give the most relevant answers to your questions. Drop a comment below with your thoughts.
